Larry Mellinger

Director of University Recreation at University of North Carolina at Charlotte

Larry Mellinger has 22 years of professional experience in collegiate recreation at six  different institutions. He is currently the director of university recreation at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he leads a comprehensive recreation department in an integrated health and well-being unit. Larry is also currently a doctoral student, with a research focus in early career competency development for higher education professionals. In more than 20 years of involvement with NIRSA: Leaders in Collegiate Recreation, Larry has served in a variety of leadership roles, including president of the NIRSA Foundation Board of Directors, faculty chair of the NIRSA School of Collegiate Recreation, exam writer for the Certified Student Affairs Educator recreation specialty exam, Policy and Legislation Committee, Basketball Sport Officials Development Program, and has presented at several state, regional, and national conferences on a variety of topics.
